This picture is shown entirely in black and white making the picture seem dark, gloomy and abandoned. The main feature of the picture is the back of the warning sign. The photographer might have wanted to include the back of the warning sign because it makes the person more intrigued by the photo and want to see the front. Above the warning sign there are three clouds making the cone like sign appear to be an ice cream. Either sides of the clouds there are large trees which also add to the gloomy atmosphere. It is shown that people may or may have lived here because there is a house, a caravan ,a car and a road which is not in bad condition. There are 5 triangles in the picture, making it look geometric. I find the simplicity of the house (the three windows and triangular roof) interesting because it contrasts with the overall setting being quite complicated with the ice cream illusion.
The full foreground of the photo is taken up by the back of the sign. The mid ground of the photo is the busiest area, including 4 trees, the house, the car and the caravan. The furthest area of the photo is the most interesting because in reality the clouds are miles away but in the photo they are shown as meters away. The sign is fully focused and so is everything else up to the trees. The picture becomes unfocused when you look down the road into the distance. This creates a mysterious effect. Even though the clouds are so far away they are very focused making them look as 1 object with the sign. The photograph has been cropped to cut out areas that do not contain main features. I find the caravan and car the most interesting features in the photo because there are so many things that you could ask about them. Who owns them? Why are they here? These kind of objects are interesting because of the questions that you can ask about them. I would ask the photographer: Why did you pick that setting? How did you come across the image? What was the vibe from the setting? Were you trying to create an ice cream illusion or was it created by coincidence? I think that the photo's setting would be a boring and depressing area to live in because of the way it feels abandoned and lonely. If i lived there then i would feel like i was out of contact with the outside world. It seems like a murder setting. I think that the photographer made this photo so that people would look at a regular street scene in different ways. The way the photo is presented makes us ask questions that we wouldn't normally ask about a normal road. The way they made the photo in all black and white goes really well with the setting creating a slightly mysterious, gloomy atmosphere. |
